Join us for a two-day journey through the vibrant fiber landscape of Whatcom and Skagit counties! Field & Fiber offers fiber lovers the chance to visit a variety of fiber farms, each offering their own take on sustainable, locally grown fiber and the handmade goods it inspires.
Led by Echo Mae, fiber historian and writer of the Know Your Fiber blog, this tour weaves together the stories of Skagit & Whatcom sheep, alpaca, and llama farms with the people and traditions that bring their fibers to life.
Whether you're a knitter, spinner, crocheter, weaver, or simply fiber-curious, you’ll enjoy:

Field & Fiber is more than a tour, it’s a chance to connect with the land, the animals, the producers, and the deep history of fiber and textile arts.
The details:
- This is a two-day event. The chartered bus will depart from Northwest Yarns & Mercantile at 9:00 AM on both August 23rd and 24th. Please arrive no later than 8:45 AM. The bus will return by 5:00 PM each day. Late arrivals may miss the departure.
- Box lunches will be provided both days. Have dietary restrictions? Email us at info@nwyarns.com.
- Most farms will have biosecurity and safety protocols in place to protect their animals. Participants must comply with each farm’s guidelines.
- Comfortable, closed-toe shoes (like sneakers or boots) are required. Some farms may require you to walk through a disinfecting solution, which may include bleach. Choose footwear accordingly.
- Although August is traditionally one of the sunniest and warmest months of the year, Pacific Northwest weather can be unpredictable. Dress in layers, and bring a rain jacket. Extra layers and rain gear can be left on the bus during visits.

Tour ticket refund policy: Participants may cancel and receive a refund for their tour tickets through 7/31/25. Cancellations with refunds after 7/31/25 will only be fulfilled if your spot is filled by a participant on the tour waitlist. If you wish to cancel after 7/31/25, please contact us and we will try to fill your spot with someone from the waitlist. If someone on the waitlist accepts, you will be refunded at that point. To request ticket cancellations, please contact us directly at info@nwyarns.com with your name and order number.
