2021 Knitting Cruise
Nautical Knitting with Meghan Jones
Sail away with us for adventure and knitting with the Schooner Zodiac and Northwest Yarns! Feel the wind in your hair as you breezily knit through this three-day, two-night sailing adventure through the San Juan Islands, with a stop in Friday Harbor on San Juan Island.
In this year’s cruise, knitting instructor Meghan Jones will lead you and your fellow nautical knitters on an adventure through a series of three classes over three days. We are absolutely thrilled to have Meghan with us this year. Meghan publishes patterns independently under her own label Little NutMeg Productions, and designs patterns/writes blog posts for Plymouth Yarn on a continuing basis. Meghan has also designed patterns for Ancient Arts, Signature Needles, Sweet Georgia Yarns, and WEBS. Her designs can be also be found in Interweave Knits, Knitscene, and knit.purl, with upcoming designs in Wool Studio Vol 10 and Vogue Knitting. Meghan also has a book coming out soon titled Adventure Cables, and is currently working as a Creative Producer on a new docu-series titled SWATCHED: The Art of Knit and Crochet.
This year’s cruise will feature three classes designed to lead you on an adventure of knitted textures and shapes. In Sideways Shawls, Meghan will give you an in-depth look at sideways shawls using her Wild Lavender and Clusterwink shawl patterns to show you how they are constructed, and how to design you own. Ready to explore cables, lace, and nupps? Create a swatch based on Meghan’s Scarlet Arches socks, a treasure trove of techniques that create a beautiful statement for your feet. This class will cover all the detailed aspects of these pretty socks so you can confidently cast on your own pair. Ready to start knitting your first sweater, or want to expand your toolbox of sweater techniques? The Castile Cardigan Starter Pack will give you all the skills you need to either start this classic textured cardi, alter it to fit you perfectly, or begin a drop sleeve pattern of your own choice. Featuring loads of information on yarn ply construction, fiber content, texture patterns, how to read a schematic, and how to alter sleeves, this class will be personalized for our students to make it as simple or as detailed as desired.
This cruise is the perfect opportunity to escape your day-to-day routine and set a course to knitting and adventure. In addition to taking classes, socializing and knitting, passengers on this cruise will also help crew the ship. Prepare to become a member of the Zodiac crew as you haul rope, raise the sails, and crew the ship’s sailing stations. You will also have an opportunity to learn the basics of navigating, steering the ship and standing watch. By the end of your trip, you will come away with new knitting inspiration and nautical skills!
Sign up now for this adventure cruise and regale your friends and family with sailing yarns for years to come. We can’t wait to see you on the ship!
